Hiya, welcome to Sailor Coruscant's Archive. I'm your host, Sailor Coruscant, though in real life I go by the (somewhat more prosaic) name 'Catherine'. I'm a PhD student who occasionally dabbles in fandom. That means that as you wander around my site, you'll no doubt find fanfiction and fanart for my various projects, but there are also a few original stories (one of which was even published for money - well, gift vouchers), my photo albums (currently under construction) and of course my online diary (which I am going to update any day now)! My day to day life is sometimes interesting, sometimes full of insight, and sometimes just plain weird. So, here for the very first time is the totally insane rantings and ravings of Catherine. Checking in to prove I'm still here...

And hot to boot!

Measuring astrographic plates - One of the tasks you could be assigned as a summer scholarship student at Macquarie is to measure these plates and properly map out the stars therein, although in these modern times a great many of them have been scanned and you do the work on a computer rather than on an old measuring machine (though we have one of those too). I was fascinated to find this photo, showing the women who did this work for so long before the plates ended up in the library basement at Macquarie.

This is me. And maybe you too. Unfortunately, it says nothing about how to fix the problem of feeling useless and like we're falling behind in life, aside from the obvious "get over it". ETA: I'm not endorsing the stupid lists presented in the article, because of course I don't feel that I'm a failure because I don't have a shoe collection, just acknowledging that I do make similar lists in my head that are less vapid and feel bad because I haven't done those things and I often regard myself as 'falling behind' my peers in terms of life goals.

sighs...

Yesterday, Julia and I threw a rather successful party for 20 people celebrating the fact that D'Arth is getting married (I really ought to finish illustrating that, ne?). Was exhausted and overwrought by the time I got home (and thanks again to Mum for being my driver for the day).

Today I'm so lonely I could cry and am getting my kicks by switching off the cable modem for 30 seconds at a time in order to drive my kid brother mad.

Follow-up on the Apple Store...

To spare those who already see my flickr stream on the planet or in their rss readers, I'm not going to link all the images here, but rather I'm just going to tell the story over on flickr. There is, however one little bit that won't go up there, and that would be my dodgy video of James and Beto's arrival and high-fiving!

Yes, I know I'm lame. But I have an apple tshirt (currently going for between $60-100 on ebay) and you don't, so I still win.

Still fickle...

I'm terrible about following up on blog promises. Instead of uploading my photos and talking about my trip, I got distracted doing web stuff around the place (in particular the Domus Prime site).

But just to show that I do care about my photos, here's one of my photos being used by the consumerist, and here's another one being used by some CMS dudes. Oh, and one more on wikipedia.
