   Catherine in 3D-land...

This morning I woke to the doorbell ringing, which could only mean one thing: my package from Singapore had arrived! And lo, it was good:
Yup, that is my mailing address, in case people want to send me love (or presents, I'm good with either). *grins* But what's important is these guys used real stamps to post mail, which is awesome! I have to soak them off and put them in my lack of a stamp album on the weekend.

Of course, who really cares about the packaging, when there are toys inside?! And bubblewrap!

So then there were packets to be opened! And toys to be played with! I suppose I ought to point out that these are the CLAMP in 3D-LAND (someday, CLAMP, I will understand your random capitalisations) Series 1 figures, and that I also have 2 of the Series 2 figures that Charles picked up in Japan for me a few weeks ago. Because he's awesome like that, and in fact it was seeing the detail on the Series 2 toys that made me want to collect the whole set. So, thank you, dude! Anyway, on to the photo!

Whee! Look at all those little guys (they're named on the flickr page, if you don't recognise them)! They're really well made, and absolutely gorgeous (particularly Syaoran from CCS, though you can't quite see him in this picture). The detail is amazing - for example Yuuko's kimono sleeves have little flowers painted on them in two tones, Chii's eyes make it clear that she's downloading something and Syaoran's Clow Card has Jump (the pink rabbit next to him) painted on it. I love them all. Not to mention Tsubasa's Syaoran and Sakura look great together.

I brought Chii and Yuuko in to uni with me today in the hopes of finding them a real home around here, but sadly I don't think they're going to stay.

Oh, and for the record, today's chibi is Hikarino Miko as one of the legendary Magic Knights. The costume design belongs to Brendan, who drew an awesome picture for me one day when I was particularly conflicted as to who I love more: CLAMP or Naoko Takeuchi (I think most of the time CLAMP wins, but don't tell Naoko-sama that).

   Today's Weird Thought...

Butterflies have the same DNA as caterpillars. Isn't that funky?

(I don't know why this has come as such a revelation, but it honestly only just occurred to me.)

Saving for a more rainy day...

So, they've just redefined the student bank account at St George. So now, instead of getting 0.01% interest, I don't get any interest... But so long as they aren't charging me any fees, I guess it's still a good deal for being able to pretend I have a credit card. I just have to remember to keep all my actual money in another account so I do get interest on it.

   Elementary, my dear Watson...

My first spammer just registered for the conference. This is sad for all involved, because now I have to think about how to stop such fake registrations. I'm pretty certain that nuking anything with the word 'nigeria' in it would stop most of them, but it still makes me unhappy.

The worst bit is, I'm pretty sure he actually filled in all those text fields by hand, and so I know that he knows there's no where for him to link to his website or anything else there. And I think he gave real information too.

*sighs*

   I win!...

So, Heidi got her cat (bear) beanie today. Expect photos at some point in the future when I see her and take some.

And I finished my other glove today, which is awesome.

I'm all out of ongoing craft projects now. I guess it's time to get on with the marking.

   One more down...

So, I also finally sat down and sewed the ears on Heidi's latest beanie, which I've been meaning to do for months but have been too busylazy to contemplate.
It's certainly not the best cat beanie I've made, and I'm still amazed that the first one I made turned out so well. This one isn't quite long enough in the back, but the ears turned out symmetric after a few tries, which is reassuring.

I also have a strange desire to put one of my crescent moon hair clips on it. I guess it's a good thing for all involved that they're at James' house.

So, in one day I've gotten done all the crafty things I had planned for the entire weekend. This is good. Tomorrow I guess I'll do all the webby things.

   Weekend projects...

I promised myself I'd finish a few of my outstanding craft projects this weekend, and since I am having a day at home all by myself, I got through a few bits and pieces, and hopefully I'll have one more to blog about before I go to bed.
But for now, here is the shrug I just knitted (as modelled by my awesome sister):
It's meant to be worn over a cocktail dress, but neither of us was wearing one, so we had to go without. This is just simple knitting on huge needles, a pattern I picked up at lincraft one time.

And then I finished the first of my wrist-warmers:
which is based upon (I only say that because I stuffed the whole thing in a number of places) Christina Slattery's pattern, which in turn was inspired by a costume worn by Rose on Doctor Who.

I totally need a knitting chibi, methinks.

I thought black was meant to be slimming...

Dear blog, from now on please remind me that I'm not meant to pose for photos when wearing this much extra weight and having this little self-esteem. And I know that blogging like this is just begging for comments saying "you're not fat", but I don't want that, I just want to say that sometimes I feel it. Now is one of those times. And no, you don't get to see the photos. I've already deleted them.

   Second Sock Syndrome...

So I've discovered that there's actually a name for the malaise that comes over me when I've made it halfway through a craft project and I just want to give up because I've learned all I was going to and really, what I've done is good enough.

Sadly, giving the beast a name doesn't make it go away.

I'm a little freaked out right now...

So, when your supervisor refers to you by a pet name given to your novel character by the strong male role model in her fictional life, it's okay to be weirded out, right? Because really, that was more than just a little disconcerting.

Now, to get my mind off that, I thought I would present you all with a preview of something new and exciting for my site that my mum recently unearthed:

I've also done a lot of writing recently, but it doesn't really feel like something to post to the forums. So I might do a fiction dump here in the blog, and then to the Domus Prime site. Buh, I don't know.
