   A minor point...

Don't pronounce "SQL" as "sequel".
Just don't.

I'm told it's a standard pronounciation. It still bugs me to no end.

Standard pronunctiation? Well in Mexico if you say "sequel" you demonstrate that you're newbie in the field or maybe an IT manager :)

I'm told it's common among astronomers. I still don't like it, and I spent great chunks of the last two days cringing whenever someone said it. Because it's just so bad.

I did hear it in Germany in the form "sequel server", when talking about Microsoft SQL server. Always "My S Q L" for MySQL though.
