Guys, it's only a Mac! (did I really just say that?)...People go crazy trying to get cheap iBooks
"People threw themselves forward, screaming and pushing each other. A little girl's stroller was crushed in the stampede. Witnesses said an elderly man was thrown to the pavement, and someone in a car tried to drive his way through the crowd." Some other guy beat people over the head with a folding chair, and a woman wet herself rather than get out of line. That's just crazy.

I guess this is the dark side of creating a desirable item with a special mystique - competitor's products simply won't do, and people must have your product at any cost. Reminds me of the rather interesting story about Steve Jobs making a personal phone call to the parents of a boy killed for his iPod...

Well, there was also the fact that they were going for $50, I suspect. I would have gotten up early to queue for a computer at that price.

And I don't get why someone would be killed for his iPod. If he's being mugged, then he should just hand it over, and if he's fighting someone for it, he's just nuts.
People are crazy.
